Located high in the hills but only a 5-minute drive from one of Israel's best coastal regions, Zikhron Yaakov was founded by Baron Edmond de Rothschild in the 1800s. The original home of Israel's best known and largest winery, Carmel Winery, farmers have been planting vineyards here for over one hundred years. Visitors to the town walk down a cafe-lined cobblestone pedestrian way. Many of the original structures still stand. Be sure to visit the Aharonson House , the base of the Nili spy ring.
